Designed by a speech-language pathologist for preschool-age children, The Not Spot is a developmental game that reinforces important skills in object recognition and categorization. Correctly identifying and grouping objects is an important skill that assists children in developing a greater understanding of characteristics and attributes, as well as building vocabulary.

The Not Spot presents four objects, three of which belong to the same category, and one of which does not. Children determine which object does not belong within the set. Large, easy-to-read captions can be read aloud by a parent or therapist using the app together with the child, and also encourage learning to read.

Over fifty different items are included, within the following groups: animals, plants, insects, fruit, vegetables, clothing, furniture, musical instruments, toys and transportation. You can turn on any combination of groups to work with.

Exceptionally good visual design makes this app a pleasure to use. For correct answers, the app provides natural reinforcements, consisting of over forty different sounds corresponding to each object category, as well as animations.

The Not Spot keeps score of rounds played and percentage correct. There are two levels of difficulty: easy, where the object that does not belong is from a completely random category, and hard, where it is from a related category.
